K-Pop Demon Hunters 2 May Not Be Released Until 2029

Call it a cultural phenomenon: 2025 has become synonymous with KPop Demon Hunters. Since its Netflix debut in June 2025, the Sony Animation feature has dominated conversations — and for good reason. The movie centers on Huntr/x, a fictional K-pop girl group that moonlights as world-saving demon slayers, and its blend of pop spectacle and action has inspired fan fiction, elaborate cosplay, and even a line of new collectibles.

Reporting from Bloomberg and corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel may not arrive until 2029. Sources say Netflix has locked deals with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans and with Sony Animation to develop the follow-up. Casting remains under discussion, but it would be surprising if the creative team replaced the original voices or singing performers who helped make the first film so distinctive.

That pacing makes sense — high-quality animation requires time, and with Huntr/x still resonating across age groups, Netflix and Sony appear intent on taking the extra care needed to recreate the original’s charms while expanding its world.

There is, however, a brighter interim prospect. An animated short called DEBUT: A KPop Demon Hunters Story is in development, and while details are sparse, it’s widely expected to explore Huntr/x’s earliest days in the K-pop world — a likely prequel that could reconnect fans with Rumi, Zoey, and Mira well before the feature sequel lands.
