The cooperative horror title The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, which launched on July 15, has been met with a lukewarm response from the gaming press.
Critics have praised the game’s evocative setting and engaging cooperative mechanics; however, many feel the experience relies too heavily on its core horror tropes. Additional grievances include repetitive gameplay loops, an overly oppressive atmosphere, and an inconsistent difficulty curve that lacks adjustable settings. Despite these flaws, the project’s underlying concept remains intriguing: players must navigate a dynamic, shifting environment that chips away at their characters’ sanity, while contending with jungle-dwelling creatures that exhibit distinct behaviors and react realistically to player actions—all in a desperate bid for survival.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is currently available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
