Johnny Depp to Star in Film Adaptation of “A Christmas Carol”

Johnny Depp, best known for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, will headline a new film adaptation of Charles Dickens’s novella A Christmas Carol, Deadline reports.

The picture is titled “Ebenezer: A Christmas Tale.” Paramount Pictures has scheduled the theatrical release for November 13, 2026. The film will be directed by Ti West (Pearl, MaXXXine). Andrea Riseborough (Mandy) is also set to appear in a supporting role.

News of the project first emerged in early October; the original report is available here. Dickens’s story follows the miserly financier Ebenezer Scrooge, who lives in 19th-century London and is visited on Christmas Eve by three spirits who fundamentally change his view of life.

At the same time, director Robert Eggers (Nosferatu) and Warner Bros. are developing their own version of A Christmas Carol, with Willem Dafoe attached to play the central character.

After his courtroom victory over former wife Amber Heard, Depp is slated to release the biopic “Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madness” and recently filmed Lionsgate’s thriller The Drunk, which is also planned for release in 2026.
