Jim Caviezel to Star in New Action-Thriller Ghost Soldier

Fans of anti-corporate action movies like Jason Statham‘s The Beekeeper have a new title to watch out for. Ghost Soldier blends revenge action with military technology reminiscent of Ghost Recon Future Soldier. The film borrows from successful action franchises and stars Jim Caviezel as a tough protagonist dispensing justice.

Caviezel is best known for roles in The Passion of the Christ and Sound of Freedom. In Ghost Soldier, he wears futuristic stealth cloaking technology to target corporate hitmen. Caviezel also delivers lines nodding to his religious roots, stating in the trailer, “God will judge our enemies; I’ll just arrange the meeting.”

Ghost Soldier follows a formula similar to movies like John Wick, The Beekeeper, Nobody, and The Equalizer. A character played by Shea Whigham describes Caviezel as an “old-school green beret with advanced military training.” The plot centers on Brownstone Interworks, a Bahraini-owned conglomerate acquiring land rights. Agents for Brownstone threaten local residents, including the family of a deceased United States military veteran.

Jim Caviezel plays Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald. Sony Pictures provides a synopsis for the character:

When a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action — he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer. Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.

Fitz uses a bow and arrow alongside sniper rifles and explosives, delivering lines like “Corporate tyranny is still tyranny.” He utilizes gear similar to Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Splinter Cell, including an invisibility cloak and a night vision mask. The movie carries a PG-13 rating and arrives in theaters on Nov. 11.

William Eubank directs Ghost Soldier from a screenplay by Chris Papasadero. Eubank previously directed Land of Bad and Underwater. The cast includes Jim Caviezel, Shea Whigham, Olivia Thirlby from Dredd, Beau Knapp from Tulsa King, and Garret Dillahunt, who also appears in HBO’s Lanterns.
