Jessie J Shares a Tender Moment with the Princess of Wales at the Royal Variety Performance

Although they occupy very different public roles, Jessie J and the Princess of Wales found common ground at the Royal Variety Performance in London on November 19, 2025 — connecting over the twin realities of motherhood and confronting cancer in the public eye.
In an interview that aired on Good Morning America on December 5, 2025, the British singer recounted their brief conversation. She said the princess acknowledged Jessie’s recent struggles, and Jessie responded in kind, recognizing the pain they had both endured.
Jessie recalled asking, in a direct and personal moment, whether she might give the princess a hug — a request that was warmly accepted.
The meeting follows a difficult period for Jessie J, who has a young son with partner Chanan Safir Colman. Earlier this year she disclosed a breast cancer diagnosis, underwent surgery in June, and returned to hospital soon after with complications from an infection. By July she learned the cancer had not metastasized, but she subsequently postponed a scheduled fall tour to undergo another operation.
Reflecting on her outlook, Jessie said she understands the possibility of recurrence, but emphasized that she is focused on living fully in the months ahead.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, has also been public about her health. She announced in March 2024 that she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer and later confirmed she had completed chemotherapy before entering remission.
Jessie told the British program This Morning that, despite being advised against physical contact, she could not help responding as a fellow mother and survivor. She described the embrace as a simple, human reaction — an expression of solidarity rather than protocol.
