Jessica Chastain to Star in Netflix Medical Thriller
Jessica Chastain has secured the lead role in the upcoming Netflix series “The Retrievals,” helmed by Molly Smith Metzler, the creator of “Maid.” She will be joined on screen by Emilia Jones and Amy Ryan.
The series is inspired by Susan Burton’s podcast of the same name, which chronicles a harrowing scandal at a Yale University fertility clinic. In the events depicted, a nurse siphoned off fentanyl intended for patients and replaced it with saline, forcing dozens of women to undergo egg retrieval procedures without adequate anesthesia.
Chastain will portray Caitlin Langford, a former art historian who, after a decade of unsuccessful fertility treatments, becomes one of the plaintiffs in the legal battle against the medical facility. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.
