Jenna Ortega to Play a Gymnast

Jenna Ortega, the breakout star of “Wednesday,” is set to headline the upcoming sports drama *Nasty*, according to reports from Deadline.

Ortega will share the screen with Oscar nominee Rose Byrne (*Insidious*), under the direction of filmmaker Karyn Kusama (notably, the project will be directed by Julia Halperin and Jason Cortlund under the guidance of Karyn Kusama; however, per industry reports, Mary Bronstein is attached to helm the project). The film will be produced by Clockwork, a newly established division of Warner Bros.

*Nasty* follows a gifted young gymnast (Ortega) striving to secure a coveted spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Her journey takes a dark turn as she discovers that her most formidable adversary is her own demanding coach (Byrne).

Penned by newcomer Isabella Iarosh, the screenplay earned a spot on the prestigious 2024 “Black List,” which highlights the most promising unproduced scripts in Hollywood. Principal photography is scheduled to commence this autumn. Margot Robbie’s production banner, LuckyChap, is on board to produce the film.

Beyond this project, audiences can look forward to seeing Ortega later this year in Taika Waititi’s science-fiction adaptation, *Klara and the Sun*.
