Jay-Z discussed his admiration for Beyoncé and his nervousness about watching his daughter, Blue Ivy, perform during an interview with Extra at the New York City premiere of his Jay-Z in 8 documentary on Sunday (Sept. 13).
“I’m super inspired by her,” he told the outlet regarding Beyoncé. “I think she’s a phenomenal producer and writer.”
“And she’s fearless,” Jay continued of Beyoncé. “She tries all kinds of stuff. Some things she does I’m like, ‘I couldn’t do that.’ She’ll be sitting in the back, like, hollering ad libs and it’s just … I’ll get in the way of myself, I get too self-conscious about it. She’ll just try anything, anything.”
“You don’t have to keep it, but she tries things,” he added. “She’s very adventurous and her recall is amazing. She’s an amazing producer. I think because she’s such an extraordinary singer, people underrate the producer that she is. She’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.”
Jay and Beyoncé have been together since 2001 and married in 2008. They collaborated on songs including the eight-week Billboard Hot 100-topper “Crazy In Love” and welcomed daughter Blue Ivy in 2012 along with twins Rumi and Sir in 2017.
Blue Ivy joined her mother as a dancer on the Renaissance and Cowboy Carter World Tours.
“I’m more nervous for her than I am for myself,” Jay told Extra of watching his eldest on stage. “Yeah, for sure. But she put in the work, and she’s a student, and she loves it. So, just to watch her find a way is just extraordinary as well.”
