It looks like Valve may be preparing a major update for Team Fortress 2.

Valve previously migrated Counter-Strike 2 to Source 2, and many fans have hoped for a similar overhaul for Team Fortress 2. Evidence now suggests such an update could be in development.

Prominent insider-blogger Tyler McVicker recently addressed TF2. Dataminers have uncovered references in files to a developer branch labeled “TF”, which is widely believed to denote the Team Fortress franchise.

Tyler highlighted recently added code associated with “TF” and argued it is “essentially direct confirmation” that Team Fortress 2 is being ported to Source 2.

According to dataminers, in October of this year new import strings were added to Source 1 that appear to facilitate transferring content into the newer engine. Investigators also found a TF2-specific mechanic being migrated to Source 2 — “func_respawnroomvisualizer”.

Valve has not issued any official announcements, so the idea that “TF2 is being ported to Source 2” remains speculative and is based solely on these code discoveries.
