Indie Developer Uses GTA VI Leaks to Promote Action Game About a Creature Made of Thousands of Leaves
Indie developer Green Cat Games has released a gameplay teaser for its upcoming action title Leafborn that mimics the visual presentation of recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks.
In August, a leaker or group known as Cyberleek began posting unauthorized Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay clips online. Those videos featured a signature overlay that included an onion-headed mascot and a QR code.
Green Cat Games adopted that identical formatting for Leafborn. The studio swapped Cyberleek’s mascot with its own leafy protagonist and set the QR code to direct viewers to the game’s official website.
Leafborn is a dynamic action game where players control a swarm entity made of thousands of leaves. Throughout the game, players unlock new forms and abilities while battling the Nulls, an invading robotic force intent on draining the world’s life energy.
The marketing stunt was designed to capitalize on online searches for GTA VI leak videos, directing curious users toward the indie project. Leafborn is available to wishlist on Steam, though the developer has not yet announced a release date or launch window.
