Iñárritu’s “Bardo” Predicted to Flop at the Box Office
Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest feature, Digger, starring Tom Cruise, appears headed for a disappointing opening. According to initial NRG tracking, the film is currently eyeing a domestic debut of approximately $20 million. More precise forecasts are expected once advance ticket sales commence this coming Tuesday.
Warner Bros. has remained tight-lipped regarding the production’s official budget; however, industry reports from Page Six suggest costs may have exceeded $180 million. Should these figures hold true, a $20 million opening would represent a dismal return on investment, particularly when factoring in the substantial capital allocated to global marketing.
The film’s promotional strategy has also drawn scrutiny. The plot and genre of Digger remain opaque to the general public, with the campaign’s primary focal point being the startling visual transformation of a noticeably aged Cruise. While the project was initially touted as an awards-season contender, its commercial viability now appears increasingly precarious.
Should Digger falter at the box office, Cruise may find himself pivoting back to the more conventional, high-octane projects that have defined his recent career.
