According to Deadline, a fresh adaptation of the classic adventure tale “Treasure Island” is officially in the works. The project will be helmed by acclaimed director Ridley Scott (“Alien”), with Hugh Jackman (“X-Men”) confirmed to headline the cast.
Jackman is set to step into the role of the enigmatic pirate Long John Silver. The screenplay is being penned by Jack Thorne (“Eighth Grade”), drawing inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic novel.
Set in the mid-18th century, the original story follows young Jim Hawkins as he embarks on a perilous voyage alongside Captain Flint and Dr. Livesey in search of long-lost treasure buried on a remote, uncharted island.
Previously, news broke regarding an upcoming Russian adaptation of the same literary classic. Jackman will soon appear in A24’s epic “The Death of Robin Hood” (pictured), while Scott’s latest project, “Dogstar,” is slated for an August release.
