Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Future: What He Actually Confirmed

Hugh Jackman is open to playing Wolverine again, but he has not confirmed another Marvel film. Two interviews in late 2025 changed the conversation around the role: the actor stopped treating his 2024 return as a one-off farewell, while carefully avoiding a promise about what comes next.

What Jackman actually said

During The Graham Norton Show, Jackman joked that he had learned not to say “never” again. Variety’s report on the interview placed the remark in context: he had once publicly retired from Wolverine after Logan, then changed his mind for Deadpool & Wolverine.

He went a step further in a December 2025 Variety Actors on Actors conversation with Cynthia Erivo. Jackman said that Deadpool & Wolverine did not feel like the end in the way Logan had. That describes his attitude toward the character; it is not an announcement of a contract, title, release date or cameo.

Why the return did not erase Logan

Logan was written as the ending for the version of Wolverine Jackman had played across the earlier X-Men films. The 2024 movie used Marvel’s multiverse rules to bring in a different Wolverine, whose history and failures were not the same. In an interview with the Motion Picture Association, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick explained that the variant concept let the story respect Logan’s death while giving Deadpool a living Wolverine to recruit.

That distinction matters whenever a new rumour appears. Jackman can return without rewriting the emotional conclusion of the 2017 film, because a future story could continue with the 2024 variant or another alternate version. The mechanism creates possibilities, but it does not identify which one Marvel will use.

What remains unconfirmed

Neither Jackman’s interviews nor the official material cited here names a specific upcoming project. TheWrap’s coverage likewise separates his willingness to return from online speculation about particular ensemble films. Claims that he has confirmed an Avengers appearance, a solo Wolverine movie or a release date should therefore be treated as rumours unless Marvel or the production publishes a cast announcement.

The reliable conclusion is narrower: Jackman no longer considers retirement absolute, enjoyed finding a new version of Logan, and is willing to discuss another performance. Fans have a real reason to keep watching official announcements, but no confirmed next Wolverine credit yet.
