Homelander’s Messianic Endgame Revealed in The Boys Season 5 Trailer

The fourth installment of The Boys concluded with Homelander (Antony Starr) reaching the apex of his influence, effectively seizing the reins of both Vought International and the United States government. Guided by the Machiavellian intellect of Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), the Supe leader has achieved near-total dominance. As the series heads into its fifth and final season, the latest trailer suggests his next objective is the ultimate conquest: transcending mortality itself.

This pursuit of eternal life is a logical evolution for a character who spent much of Season 4 spiraling over the physical realities of aging. Homelander’s obsession with his own biological decline—exemplified by his collection of graying hairs—drives him toward “V-One,” a potent serum capable of granting the same ageless endurance possessed by the likes of Stormfront, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), and Thomas Godolkin.

In a desperate bid for a legacy, Homelander liberates his biological progenitor, Soldier Boy, from cryostatic confinement. It is a high-stakes gamble; despite their shared bloodline, Soldier Boy has the unique capacity to strip other Supes of their abilities. Nevertheless, the trailer hints at an uneasy alliance as the two are seen infiltrating a medical research facility together.

Meanwhile, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is once again spearheading the resistance, though his methods have turned genocidal. He aims to deploy the anti-Supe virus first introduced in the spinoff series Gen V. This scorched-earth tactic would certainly eliminate Homelander, but it would also mean certain death for Butcher’s own powered allies, including Starlight (Erin Moriarty), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara).

True to the show’s reputation, the preview promises plenty of visceral gore and sharp political commentary. While Homelander settles into the Oval Office and establishes “freedom camps” for his detractors, The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) have found a new calling in the modern landscape: reinventing themselves as manosphere podcast hosts.

The Boys Season 5 will debut its first two episodes on Prime Video on April 8. Subsequent episodes will follow a weekly release schedule every Wednesday, culminating in the series finale on May 20.
