Insidious Brings Back Iconic Monster in Post-Credits Scene
Insidious: Out of the Further has arrived in theaters. As the sixth entry in the long-running series, the movie expands the narrative beyond the Lambert family and longtime psychic Elise Rainier. Elise makes an important appearance, but the story centers on a new protagonist whose family shares a dark connection to the Further, the parallel realm inhabited by demonic entities.
The film works as a serviceable horror installment. While it delivers fewer scares than earlier entries, it proves the franchise can explore new ground after 15 years. Audiences planning to see the film should remain seated through the end credits, as a bonus scene follows up on the fate of primary antagonist Cyrus Lem.

Insidious: Out of the Further’s post-credit scene, explained
Cyrus Lem serves as the main threat throughout Out of the Further. Presented as a hippie cult leader, Cyrus has spent decades tormenting Gemma (Amelia Eve) and her relatives, having killed Gemma’s mother during the opening sequence. Unlike many previous franchise monsters, Cyrus displays a more human appearance, featuring long black hair, a scarf tied across his eyes, and metallic rings that clink against his fingers as he pursues victims.

During the climax, Gemma masters her inherited ability to shift physical objects between the real world and the Further. Cyrus kidnaps Gemma’s daughter Maya (Island Austin) to pull hordes of spirits across dimensions. Gemma counters this plan by trapping the demons inside her house and shifting the entire building into the Further. Gemma then returns to the human realm, reuniting with Maya and her boyfriend (Brandon Perea), while abandoning Cyrus to face a crowd of enraged demons furious about losing their freedom.
The post-credits sequence returns to Cyrus inside the Further. A demon forces Cyrus into a dental treatment chair and begins drilling into his teeth with a metal instrument, fulfilling a torment previously threatened against Gemma earlier in the story. The scene highlights that the realm’s spirits hold no loyalty toward their human allies.
The sequence includes references for veteran fans, featuring a cameo from KeyFace, the villain introduced in Insidious: The Last Key. KeyFace seals Cyrus inside the torture room before the camera pulls back to reveal the franchise’s signature red door.
What’s next for the Insidious franchise?

The commercial performance of Out of the Further will determine the direction of future installments. In 2023, Insidious: The Red Door became the highest-grossing release in the franchise and ranked among the most profitable horror titles of that year. Strong ticket sales could encourage producers James Wan and Leigh Whannell to expand the universe with new creative teams.
Sony previously announced a spin-off titled Thread: An Insidious Tale in 2023. That project cast Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani as parents using supernatural means to travel back in time to prevent their young daughter’s death, triggering disastrous fallout. Jeremy Slater, known for his work on Moon Knight and Mortal Kombat II, joined the production as writer and director. The current development status of that spin-off remains unconfirmed.
