“Hit Man” comedy to be adapted into a TV series

Netflix has announced the development of a brand-new television series inspired by Richard Linklater’s acclaimed feature film, Hit Man.

The original movie, which premiered on the festival circuit in 2023, centers on the true story of Gary Johnson (portrayed by Glen Powell)—a dedicated investigator who poses as a contract killer to entrap those attempting to solicit a murder. Following its June 2024 debut on Netflix, the film garnered widespread critical acclaim, boasting an impressive 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Both Linklater and Powell are attached as executive producers for the upcoming series. The writing duties will be helmed by Stephen Falk (known for You’re the Worst). As of now, an official release date has not been set.
