Hilary Duff has released “CATastrophe,” an original song written for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s upcoming theatrical adaptation of The Cat in the Hat. The track arrived Friday (Oct. 2) alongside a music video that places Duff into colorful, oversized worlds inspired by Dr. Seuss.
Duff co-wrote the song with her husband and frequent collaborator Matthew Koma, Madison Love, and Brian Phillips. Koma and Phillips produced the track. “CATastrophe” explores the experience of having your world change before you are ready for it.
In a statement provided to Billboard, Duff explained that Dr. Seuss books were a staple in her childhood home. “It’s about that feeling of having your entire world rearranged without getting a say in the matter, and I wanted to pair that idea with an upbeat, car-ready pop song,” she said.
The song arrives during Duff’s musical comeback. Earlier this year, she released Luck… Or Something, her first studio album in more than a decade. The 11-track album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, marking her sixth top 10 album on the chart and her highest placement since 2007.
Duff also launched the Lucky Me tour this year, marking her return to full-scale touring after nearly two decades. Billboard reported that the tour has been extended through 2027. Duff will receive the Outstanding Pop Tour of the Year award at the 2026 Billboard Live Music Summit in November.
The Cat in the Hat opens in theaters and IMAX on Nov. 6. The Cat in the Hat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) releases on Oct. 30. The Warner Bros. Pictures Animation feature stars Bill Hader as the title character, following the Cat as he helps siblings Gabby and Sebastian adjust to a new town. Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito, and America Ferrera round out the voice cast.
