Noah Kahan released the single “Draw You Out” as the lead track from the upcoming film in the Hunger Games franchise.
The track arrived at midnight, reuniting Kahan with Aaron Dessner. Dessner co-wrote and co-produced the song at New York’s Long Pond Studio alongside Nashville’s Gold Pacific Studios and East Iris Studios.
“Draw You Out” includes the multi-tracked vocals that defined Kahan’s 2022 hit “Stick Season.” The song will appear on the official soundtrack, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album), which releases Nov. 13 through MCA.
The Vermont folk-pop artist sings on the track: I was born with someone else’s face, a coward’s anger and a fighter’s rage, while waiting for others to take his place and grant him freedom.
Kahan told Billboard’s Lyndsey Havens that participating in the Hunger Games universe is an insane opportunity, adding that he has read all the books and watched all the movies.
Dave Cobb, known for his work with Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson, executive produces The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album). According to a statement from MCA, the project unites 29 cross-genre artists, with Kahan announced as the sole artist for the project so far.
“Music is such a massive part of the Hunger Games in a lot of ways,” Kahan told Billboard. “To be able to speak to what the director sees in these characters, what Suzanne Collins wrote these characters for, and to try to match that is a big task – but a really fun challenge. I just can’t believe that I get to be a part of it.”
Lionsgate’s prequel film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, visits Panem 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games. The film opens in theaters on Nov. 20.
