Lola Young spoke candidly about vaping in a TikTok posted Wednesday (Sept. 30), saying that breathing has become unexpectedly difficult after years of using vapes.
“My lungs feel like they’re battery powered, like they’re just one big battery,” Young, 25, said. “And breathing feels like a chore.”
Young recalled being warned years ago that she would eventually notice the effects of vaping, a notion she dismissed at the time. Now, she stated, “the day has come.”
“It feels like hard work,” she continued, adding that she should earn “£30-an-hour” just for breathing.
The singer did not frame the video as an announcement that she is quitting, joking that she will try to stop when she turns 45.
She captioned the post, “spoken word 4 ya.”
This update follows Young opening up about her struggles with addiction and recovery, which reached a breaking point when she collapsed onstage during a 2025 performance at New York’s All Things Go Music Festival.
Alongside her personal updates, Young’s music career has continued to grow. Her breakout single “Messy” reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 2025 as her first hit on the chart. She is also featured on Tyler, The Creator’s “Like Him,” which peaked at No. 43.
