Highguard’s stats are impressive: how many players tried the shooter

Ahead of the impending server sunset, Wildlight Entertainment has released engagement metrics for their shooter, Highguard. Studio director Chad Grenier highlighted that the title drew in over 2 million players—a milestone he described as a success, drawing parallels to the early trajectory of Apex Legends. On average, users spent 91 minutes per session, completing approximately 3.5 matches during that time.

The PlayStation 5 emerged as the dominant platform, with the player count on Sony’s console more than doubling the combined totals of Xbox Series X/S and PC. Geographically, the United States took the top spot, followed closely by Japan. Notably, 92% of the user base successfully completed the tutorial mission, indicating a highly engaged audience at launch.

Scarlet reigned as the most popular hero, selected more than 1.5 million times, while the Vanguard established itself as the most lethal armament, accounting for nearly 12 million eliminations. Despite the introduction of a 5v5 mode, the community remained loyal to the classic 3v3 format, which represented over 40% of all sessions, with the majority of games concluding through the destruction of the generator.

While initial numbers were strong, the studio conceded that the player base lacked the long-term sustainability required for the project’s continued operation. As a result, Highguard’s servers are scheduled to go dark on March 12, 2026.
