Hideo Kojima Names His Favorite Character in Death Stranding 2 — It’s Not Sam
Hideo Kojima has often spoken about his deep bond with his projects, so naming a favorite character can feel almost like choosing a favorite child. Still, he has no hesitation when asked who he prefers in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
In an interview, Kojima revealed:
“There was a character called Cliff, played by Mads Mikkelsen, who was extremely popular. But in DS1’s story he dies, so I couldn’t bring him back for DS2. That led me to think about Neil. I’m a huge admirer of Luca Marinelli and really wanted to work with him. Yet my favorite is Fragile, portrayed by Léa Seydoux.”
“You might assume it’s Sam, but Sam is the protagonist. He’s the lead, yet Fragile is actually one of DS2’s concealed central figures. For Léa Seydoux we upgraded our capture technology so her line deliveries and movements would feel more natural, which looks beautiful. I also asked Woodkid to compose a piece dedicated to Fragile, so whenever she appears in the game her musical theme plays in the background. Overall, she’s a wonderful character. If you haven’t played the game yet, you’ll be surprised by the quality of the performances and by how fully realized Fragile is. Be sure to follow her story through to the end.”
