Heroes Of The Storm Gets First New Character In Six Years, Arriving Later This Month

During the opening ceremony at BlizzCon today, Blizzard President Johanna Faries surprised fans by revealing that Heroes of the Storm is receiving its first brand-new playable character in six years. Stepping straight out of upcoming narratives as the main antagonist of World of Warcraft: Midnight, Xal’atath is descending into the Nexus as a formidable ranged assassin wielding devastating Void capabilities.

Blizzard has provided an official breakdown of Xal’atath’s comprehensive kit, detailing how her unique abilities will function on the battlefield:

• Trait — Void Volley: Standard attacks accumulate Soul Essence. Once maximum Essence is reached, Xal’atath unleashes a rapid barrage of void bolts toward a designated zone while maintaining complete mobility. This is tied directly to the Void Whispers questline, which progressively grants enhanced range, quicker charge times, and piercing, amplified void damage.
• E — Dark Heart Ritual: Summons the Dark Heart talisman to emit pulses of void energy targeting nearby adversaries, ultimately tracking and detonating upon any hero afflicted by a Shadow Mark.
• W — Void Step: Enables a tactical blink across three distinct points in a triangular formation, bolstering attack power at each destination. This maneuver can be canceled early to quickly adjust positioning or evade danger.
• Q — Shadow Mark: Launches a substantial Void Orb that brands enemies caught within its inner perimeter. The Dark Heart automatically relocates to the point of impact, triggering a detonation specifically on marked heroes.
• Heroic 1 — Void Eruption: Channels an expanding sphere of void energy, hurling it forward to impair enemy vision and control territorial space before triggering a massive area-of-effect detonation. Casting this directly onto the Dark Heart yields an instant, fully empowered blast.
• Heroic 2 — Void Convergence: Opens a menacing portal that summons relentless waves of void minions to swarm and overwhelm nearby opponents, automatically replacing fallen creatures until the rift expires or is destroyed.
