Hellraiser Creator Hints at New Projects After Hellraiser: Revival Success

Saber Interactive’s boldness with Hellraiser: Revival has impressed the creator of the franchise.

Hellraiser creator Clive Barker told Dread Central that he is “damn proud” of the game. He had feared the developers would have to make serious concessions to censorship, but he was pleasantly surprised by how far they managed to go.

In Barker’s view, Revival showed that the franchise still has room to grow, including in film. He has plenty of ideas of his own and does not plan to say goodbye to the Hellraiser universe.

“I think what the game has achieved is a signal to everyone involved in making a franchise like ‘Hellraiser.’ It reminds us that we need to rethink our ideas in order to return to familiar worlds in a completely new way. I have a lot of ideas I would like to bring to the Hellraiser universe, and I intend to keep taking part in its development.”

Barker has not yet announced any new films. The most recent screen adaptation remains David Bruckner’s 2022 Hellraiser reboot, which offered its own interpretation of the familiar mythology. Hellraiser: Revival, for its part, tells a standalone story inspired mainly by the atmosphere and ideas of the first two films, released in 1987 and 1988.
