Irish actors Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, previously seen together in the drama Hamnet, are set to reunite for an upcoming film titled “Hold on to Your Angels.”
The project marks the third feature film from director Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild). The narrative is set in Louisiana and follows the story of a criminal who falls in love with a preacher.
“It is the most incredible love story I have ever witnessed—a crime romance for the end times of America, set on the crumbling fringes of South Louisiana… a love letter to a vanishing way of life and a plea for empathy on our fractured planet,”
— Zeitlin remarked in a press release. His previous effort, Wendy, was released in 2020 to a tepid critical reception. Production for Angels will be handled by Brad Pitt’s company, Plan B, alongside Alex Coco (Anora). Filming is scheduled to commence in February 2027.
Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, which premiered last year, offered a fictionalized account of the life of William Shakespeare and his family. Buckley’s portrayal of Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes, garnered her Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations. The film proved a commercial success, grossing over $100 million worldwide.
