Though the world is eagerly awaiting GTA VI, its story is being developed without Dan Houser, who led writing since 1997 — beginning with Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 — and contributed to other Rockstar titles, including L.A. Noire.
He left the company two years after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released, a move that surprised many fans. Earlier reports speculated his exit resulted from a dispute with his brother and Rockstar co‑founder Sam Houser. The reality was simpler: Houser cited professional burnout.
In an interview with American Radio 4, timed to the release of his debut novel “The Best Paradise,” he explained:
These projects are truly long and complex, and completing them takes an immense amount of time. It’s difficult to build something of this scale with so many moving parts — 450,000 lines of dialogue and roughly the same number of other elements that must be integrated. It’s a vast undertaking that unfolds over years, and I wasn’t sure I had the energy to tackle another game like that.
