In celebration of Pride Month, electronic artist GRiZ has shared a heartfelt, empowering message dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Happy Pride Month to all my LGBTQIA+ family!” the musician wrote in a touching Instagram post this Sunday. “I take immense pride in being gay—a truth that, in transparency, took a long time to fully embrace. The path was often arduous and occasionally shadowed, but if you are currently navigating those dark stretches, please know that there is always a radiant light waiting just ahead.”

Born Grant Kwiecinski, the producer first shared his truth publicly in a 2017 op-ed for The Huffington Post. Since then, he has become a visible advocate, notably serving as the face of MeUndies’ 2019 Pride collection.

“I am incredibly fortunate to have found such a supportive community and a loving family,” GRiZ reflected. “I am overflowing with joy for those celebrating their first Pride while living authentically—no matter your age, I am so happy for you. To those still waiting for the right moment to come out, please be gentle with yourself; you are exactly where you need to be. When your moment arrives, it will be uniquely yours—beautiful, transformative, and perfectly human in all its messiness.”

Reflecting on the history of the movement, he added, “I recognize that my ability to live openly is a direct result of the courage and sacrifice of those who paved the way. Their tireless advocacy for legislative protection and social justice shaped the world we live in today, yet our work remains unfinished. Our right to exist with equality is frequently under fire, and we must honor their legacy by continuing the fight—whether through political activism, the profound bravery of simply existing, or by being an unwavering ally.”

He concluded his message with a promise of inclusivity: “Being gay is wonderful, and if you aren’t out yet, that is perfectly fine, too. Regardless of what Pride looks like for you this year, please know that you always have a sanctuary in any space I hold. We love you!”

In honor of the month, GRiZ announced a donation to The Center on Colfax in Denver. As the largest LGBTQ+ community hub in the Rocky Mountain region, the organization plays a vital role in local advocacy and efforts to dismantle discrimination.

GRiZ recently offered a candid look at his career hiatus and his latest project, Future Funk Volume 1, in a deep-dive interview with Billboard. He is slated to perform at Electric Forest in his native Michigan this coming weekend.
