“Glad it won’t explode”: Xbox 360’s calendar ends after 2025, but the consoles won’t be bricked

Two decades after its launch, the Xbox 360 continues to maintain a dedicated following among gamers.

Despite the passage of time, the Xbox 360 remains a staple for many enthusiasts. Recently, the community discovered a peculiar technical limitation within the console’s system calendar.

The original developers implemented a hard cap on manual date entries, preventing users from selecting any year past 2025. With the settings “limit” officially set to December 31, 2025, many owners grew concerned about how the legacy hardware would behave once the clock struck midnight on the new year.

As it turns out, the arrival of 2026 did not cause any systemic failures. Xbox 360 users who connected their consoles online have reported that the hardware survived the transition perfectly intact, dispelling fears of a “Y2K-style” crash for the platform.

Social media posts now show the system calendar successfully rolling over to January 1, 2026. While the manual selection tool still restricts users from picking 2026, the internal clock advances automatically without issue.
