Ginger Spice and Baby Spice reunite in a commercial for Dunkin’ that premiered on Tuesday (Sept. 8) to promote the brand’s fall flavors while introducing a fictional sixth band member played by Rachel Dratch.

During a mock documentary-style interview, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner reveal that the group originally had a sixth member named Pumpkin Spice. Dressed in an orange outfit, Dratch sips a pumpkin-flavored iced latte and recalls her fictional career in the group, listing songs such as “Don’t Squash My Love,” “Walk Through My Pumpkin Patch,” and “Bumpin’ Pumpkins.”

Dratch explains in an exaggerated British accent that she left the band to focus on lattes.

Halliwell-Horner comments that they were devastated and references absent members Mel B, Mel C, and Victoria Beckham by stating that the others still refuse to talk to her.

The commercial coincides with Dunkin’ bringing back autumnal menu items such as pumpkin spice, patch, and pie latte flavors alongside pumpkin bakery items. Dratch states in a release that Pumpkin Spice was ahead of her time.

The SNL alumna adds that she respects the commitment to lattes and enjoyed bringing the character back alongside Emma and Geri.

Bunton tells Billboard that the seasonal flavor brings back memories of trying a pumpkin spice latte with her family in New York, calling it her go-to drink and autumn in a cup.

Halliwell-Horner prefers a traditional cup of tea that she sometimes dunks sweet pastries into, though she admits she could eat a full dozen if ravenous.

The Spice Girls join a list of artists who have partnered with Dunkin’, following campaigns in recent years from Sabrina Carpenter, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, and Megan Thee Stallion.

The absence of the fictional sixth member did not stop the quintet from achieving success in the 1990s, including three top 10 hits in 1997 and the four-week Billboard Hot 100-topping single “Wannabe.”
