Ghost of Yotei Runs at 3.4 Frames Per Minute in PC Port

Progress is being made, but performance still leaves much to be desired.

Sony has yet to release Ghost of Yotei on PC. However, some players would like to experience Sucker Punch Productions’ new game, leading them to hope for an emulator or an unofficial PC port.

A project called AnyPS5 exists as a tool for “automatically porting PS5 executables to Linux and Windows.” Tech enthusiasts are currently attempting to run Ghost of Yotei on PC and have achieved a certain level of success.

A user known as Celegans12 recently reported that the world of Ghost of Yotei loaded for him in about 7 minutes, compared to 13 minutes previously. However, performance still leaves much to be desired, with a frame rate of approximately 3.4 frames per minute, or roughly one frame every 17 to 18 seconds, making the game unplayable at this time.

Celegans12 explained that performance is limited by the CPU portion of the driver, which takes roughly 17.6 seconds per frame:

Most of the time is spent on resource binding (about 10 seconds): every single frame, approximately 16,600 textures are created anew, and the 16,386-entry image table is rebuilt every frame (taking 5 seconds each time). The texture cache is still too small for this world, and that is precisely the issue I will be working on now.

Ultimately, AnyPS5 allows Ghost of Yotei to transition from loading screens and the user interface to rendering a 3D scene, though playing is not yet possible. Work on the project continues.
