As one of the standout titles of the previous year, Ghost of Yōtei is gearing up for a major content drop this coming October. While developers had previously confirmed an upcoming narrative expansion and an adrenaline-fueled roguelike mode, a recent State of Play broadcast finally offered a thrilling first look at the gameplay in action. Even better, the presentation delivered a massive surprise: Jin Sakai, the iconic hero of Ghost of Tsushima, is officially stepping back into the fray as a playable character in the brand-new roguelike mode, titled Most Wanted.

PlayStation first-party hits receiving robust post-launch roguelike expansions has steadily evolved into a beloved industry trend. We witnessed it with The Last of Us Part II, and God of War: Ragnarök’s compelling Valhalla chapter. Now, Yōtei is joining those elite ranks. The Most Wanted mode tasks players with surviving relentless waves of adversaries, utilizing adaptable loadouts that evolve through rewarding gameplay perks. Imagine igniting your katana in roaring flames whenever your health drops below a certain threshold, or summoning a loyal pack of wolves to tear through enemies after stringing together consecutive successful strikes. Complete with ultimate abilities and high-octane kill-streaks, the mode introduces a wildly entertaining, arcade-style energy to the samurai epic.

Naturally, series lead Atsu anchors the roster, but she is joined by Oyuki, Nagato, and—to the sheer delight of long-time fans—Jin Sakai. Given that players will encounter bosses outside the strict boundaries of the main storyline, it’s clear this mode operates strictly outside official canon. Frankly, nobody will mind; seeing Jin wield his blade once more is pure fan service done right. Each playable hero features a unique starting loadout, sparking immense curiosity regarding how Jin’s combat mechanics will translate over from his original journey.

Most Wanted launches on October 1, arriving alongside the fresh single-player expansion, Echoes of Skigahara. Owners of the base game can seamlessly upgrade to the Complete Edition for $14.99 to unlock all the incoming narrative adventures.
