George Lucas to voice a character in the new Minions movie
George Lucas, the visionary creator behind the Star Wars and Indiana Jones sagas, is set to make a rare return to voice acting. The iconic filmmaker has secured a cameo role in Minions & Monsters, the upcoming animated feature from Illumination Studios.
According to the studio’s head, the concept of casting Lucas blossomed from a personal encounter several years ago. It turns out that the director is a dedicated enthusiast of the Despicable Me franchise and holds a particular fondness for the Minions. When a suitable part was developed for the new project, the creative team reached out to Lucas, who accepted the offer almost immediately.
Specific details regarding his character remain under wraps. However, it has been confirmed that the film is set in 1920s Hollywood and will follow the Minions’ ambitious, albeit chaotic, attempts to produce their own monster movie.
Minions & Monsters is scheduled for release on July 1, 2026.
