Gargoyles Live-Action Series Cancelled, Creator Confirms
Disney+ has scrapped its live-action Gargoyles series after the adaptation spent nearly three years in development.
Greg Weisman, co-creator of the original animated series, confirmed the project’s cancellation:
«Atomic Monster licensed the development of a live-action Gargoyles series for Disney+, and that project is now dead. I know nothing about animation, but there are no plans for a new live-action adaptation at this time.»
Development on the series first came to light in October 2023. Gary Dauberman, writer of The Conjuring universe spin-offs Annabelle and The Nun, was attached to write, serve as showrunner, and executive produce. James Wan and Michael Clear were overseeing the project on behalf of Atomic Monster. Now, the franchise appears to be back on the shelf.
The original Gargoyles animated series ran from 1994 to 1997 and followed ancient stone warriors who awaken in modern-day New York City and take on the role of nocturnal protectors.
