Warner Bros. is officially exploring a cinematic expansion of the “Game of Thrones” universe with a new feature-length film, Variety reports.
The project is set to be penned by Beau Willimon, the acclaimed creator of “House of Cards” and a key writer for “Andor.” While official plot details are still being guarded, industry insiders suggest the narrative will focus on Aegon I Targaryen, the legendary conqueror who established the Targaryen dynasty. This pivotal historical figure has never before been portrayed on screen.
The “Game of Thrones” franchise is based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series. Set on the magical continent of Westeros, the overarching story follows noble families as they engage in a brutal and political struggle for control of the Iron Throne.
Since the original series premiered on HBO in 2011, the brand has grown into a massive media franchise, including the hit prequel “House of the Dragon” and the upcoming series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”
