FunnyPlaying Reveals Specifications for FPGB Mini Portable Console

Users can now find out what screen the FPGB Mini handheld console from FunnyPlaying features, as well as how the device handles cartridges, dimensions, battery life, and slots.

FunnyPlaying has shared new details with the Retro Dodo portal regarding the FPGB Mini handheld console, also known as the Retro Pixel MiniGB. This retro device is designed as a scaled-down replica of the original Game Boy that can play GB and GBC cartridges as well as run ROM files.

This new device is equipped with a 2.98-inch IPS display with a fairly high resolution, which provides 4x upscale for GBC games (IPS TFT, 800 × 720, RGB565, 16.7 million colors).

The console also features a removable 1800 mAh lithium-polymer battery that provides approximately 4 to 6 hours of battery life with a full charge time of about 2 to 3 hours. The FPGB Mini supports a link cable, though it requires a proprietary USB-C cable that will be sold separately after the launch, which currently has no release date.

Additionally, the device may not work with flash cartridges or their clones. Some may boot up naturally, but compatibility with all of them is not guaranteed. Games on physical cartridges will save as usual, while save files for ROMs will be written to an SD memory card.

The dimensions of the FPGB Mini are 113 × 64 × 22 mm, and it weighs 135 grams with the battery. It includes an original 32-pin GB/GBC slot, a 0.5 W speaker, support for MicroSD cards up to 32 GB formatted in FAT32, PD, and other protocols.

FunnyPlaying is not yet ready to announce the price of the FPGB Mini or when pre-orders will open.
