Freddy Is Coming for You Again: Hollywood Is Working on a Nightmare on Elm Street Remake

Paramount has officially secured the rights to the iconic *A Nightmare on Elm Street* horror franchise and is moving forward with a brand-new reboot, according to recent industry reports.

The project is being spearheaded by the studio’s newly formed label, Paramount Primal, overseen by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules—the creative minds behind the 2022 breakout horror hit *Barbarian*. At this stage, specific plot details, directorial attachments, and other key personnel remain under wraps. There is no word yet on who will step into the iconic fedora and glove to portray the dream-stalking slasher, Freddy Krueger.

Conceived by legendary filmmaker Wes Craven and debuting in 1984, the original *A Nightmare on Elm Street* introduced audiences to Freddy Krueger (famously portrayed by Robert Englund), a vengeful killer who haunts the dreams of teenagers. The franchise has since expanded into a massive cult phenomenon, spanning nine feature films, a television series, various novels, and comic books. A previous reboot attempt was released in 2010, featuring Academy Award nominee Jackie Earle Haley as the infamous antagonist.
