‘Following in The Witcher 3’s Footsteps’: New Gothic Remake Details Revealed — Xbox Series S Issues, Reworked Fight with the Sleeper and More

As the Gothic remake’s release draws nearer, additional details are being revealed.

The team behind the Gothic remake have been speaking with the media. In a recent conversation with GRY Online they discussed the project’s current status and several new additions.

It was disclosed that the remake will “follow in The Witcher 3’s footsteps” — by adding a useful feature previously introduced by CD Projekt RED.

Reinhard Pollis, CEO of Alkimia Interactive, described the recap feature:

[…] we added a feature that, on the first time a save is loaded, summarizes all the story moments you’ve experienced so far. […] It’s accompanied by a narrator’s voice and, since it plays during the loading screen, it doesn’t interfere with gameplay — you can also skip the recap if you wish.

In the Gothic community they examined the interview and highlighted several points:

  • All chapters are already finished, and the developers have reworked the fight with the Sleeper — “it will be linked to nightmares and dreams.”
  • Significant effort is being invested in the combat system (control and responsiveness, animations, and smooth transitions).
  • The two-handed sword master’s animations have been completely redesigned.
  • Unreal Engine 5 received praise from the team.

On the subject of optimization for the Xbox Series S, Reinhard said:

If I had my way, I would have declared from the outset that the game won’t launch on the Xbox Series S. But you can’t do that — if something ships on Series X, it typically must also appear on S. Still… the amount of time we lost trying to optimize for that console is mind-boggling. It was excruciating, because it became a battle for every megabyte of memory. In truth, that battle continues, as we constantly strive to optimize available memory. It’s tedious, slow work — and this part of development provides almost no satisfaction.

The Gothic remake is expected to launch in 2026.
