Half-Life: Alyx Receives Major Update Ahead of Steam Frame Release
A new update for Half-Life: Alyx brings optimization and ARM64/AArch64 support, preparing the game for launch on the Steam Frame VR headset.
Valve has released a major update for Half-Life: Alyx featuring optimizations, ARM64/AArch64 support, and foveated rendering as it prepares the title for a native release on the Steam Frame VR headset.
Valve did not add new content, focusing instead on performance and image quality. One of the main additions is a technology that directs most of the processing power to the area where the player is looking.
Depth-aware reprojection was also added to help maintain visual smoothness when the frame rate drops. The update improves performance on standard PCs as well, while fixing latency tied to the player’s hands and other simulated objects.
Valve also addressed several bugs, including a false out-of-memory error, cloud save issues on Linux, incorrect subtitles, main menu flickering, and a bug that occasionally prevented players from interacting with objects after starting a new game.
Valve previously stated that Half-Life: Alyx should run well natively on the Steam Frame. The new update shows that the company is actively preparing the game for the new device.
