First Trailer Released for David Fincher and Netflix Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Sequel
Netflix released a new trailer for the upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spin-off, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The footage features the style of violence and old-school cool expected from Quentin Tarantino. The trailer shows former Hollywood stuntman Cliff Booth, played once again by Brad Pitt, taking on violent odd jobs for the film industry.
The story takes place in 1977, eight years after the previous movie. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood followed stuntman Cliff Booth as he crossed paths with an infamous cult.
A notable element of the trailer is its reference to one of the previous movie’s most controversial moments: Cliff beating up Bruce Lee. Some viewers and the Bruce Lee estate objected to Lee’s depiction in the film because he is portrayed as an unlikable poser who gets beaten by Cliff. While some argued that Cliff was an unreliable narrator and the fight was not meant to be taken literally, Tarantino weighed in by calling Bruce Lee “kind of an arrogant” guy. More recently, Tarantino drew criticism after calling out Paul Dano for “ruining” There Will Be Blood.
Who is working on The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth?
David Fincher is directing The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. It marks the third film in a row he is helming for Netflix, following Mank in 2020 and The Killer in 2023. Tarantino, who directed and wrote Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, also scripted this sequel. This marks the first movie he has written but not directed since 1996’s From Dusk Till Dawn. In an interview with Deadline, Brad Pitt said that Tarantino “didn’t want to direct it,” which led to Fincher stepping in.
While Tarantino has not confirmed why he chose not to helm the project, he may have wanted to avoid breaking his own “10 film rule.” That rule is his pledge to retire from directing after completing ten films. The filmmaker is technically at ten films by his own count because he considers Kill Bill one movie split into two volumes.
Alongside Brad Pitt returning as Cliff Booth, the cast features Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and more.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will release exclusively in IMAX on Nov. 25, 2026, for two weeks before streaming on Netflix on Dec. 23, 2026.
