First details of The Incredibles 3 have emerged

Brad Bird, the visionary behind The Incredibles franchise, has opened up about the upcoming third installment, confirming that he has no intention of implementing a significant time jump. Despite persistent fan speculation that the Parr family might age significantly in the new chapter, Bird maintains that such a trajectory would be ill-suited for the series.

According to Bird, the heart of The Incredibles lies not in the characters’ specific ages, but in the universal life stages they represent. Mr. Incredible embodies the mid-life crisis and the struggle to maintain one’s identity; Elastigirl reflects the delicate balance between career and family; Violet captures the angst of adolescence; Dash personifies the boundless energy of youth; and Jack-Jack represents the unpredictable nature of infancy.

The director emphasized that simply aging the characters would not inherently make them more compelling or relevant. Instead, he believes the franchise’s enduring appeal stems from these relatable family archetypes, rather than the chronological progression of its protagonists.

The Incredibles 3 is currently in active development at Pixar.
