Square Enix has just unveiled an extensive, ten-minute deep-dive trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, offering an unprecedented look at its narrative, sprawling world, and cast of characters. Alongside this cinematic showcase, the studio officially announced that the game will launch on April 8, 2027, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The presentation opens by spotlighting each playable party member and demonstrating refined, expanded combat mechanics before locking in the spring release date. Director Naoki Hamaguchi then steps in to guide viewers through the finer details of the journey. Players will pilot the Highwind airship in real time, serving as their mobile headquarters from which Cloud and his allies can execute breathtaking, free-fall parachute descents straight onto the planet’s surface.
Once grounded, traversal reaches new heights: players can summon trusty chocobos to sprint, glide, and soar across expansive landscapes. These beloved mounts are no longer just for travel—they actively participate in combat alongside traditional weaponry.
A major mechanical addition to Revelation is the FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitware) system. Acting as a flexible job system, FITS allows party members to seamlessly transition into distinct combat classes, such as warriors or black mages. Players access this suite directly from the Highwind before plotting a course to iconic returning locations like Junon or entirely new destinations, such as Wutai—Yuffie’s ninja-centric homeland.
Wutai is depicted as a breathtaking, fantastical reinterpretation of feudal Japan, where Yuffie’s grapple gun makes navigating the soaring architecture effortless. While destinations like Rocket Town are kept under wraps for now, the trailer also revisits the lush, nostalgic terrain of Gongaga, previously explored in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Square Enix emphasizes that regional side quests in areas like Gongaga will weave deeper lore into the experience, tracking down beloved characters from across the broader Final Fantasy VII universe. Interestingly, Revelation introduces a 2x cutscene speed-up feature, allowing players to breeze through narrative sequences during subsequent playthroughs. Furthermore, character dynamics shift based on active party composition; for instance, Cissnei interacts distinctively when paired with Vincent compared to Yuffie.
Card game enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that the acclaimed Queen’s Blood returns, with Red XIII taking center stage in a dedicated narrative arc featuring formidable opponents who completely subvert traditional rules.
Wrapping up the presentation, Hamaguchi encourages fans to experience both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth ahead of Revelation’s global arrival next April.
