Volga Film Company has officially launched production on its live-action adaptation of the beloved classic, “Funtik.” This cinematic reimagining of the iconic Soviet cartoon is tentatively scheduled for a 2027 release.

In this fresh take on the story, Funtik is the stage persona of a young boy performing in a circus under the iron-fisted control of the ruthless Belladonna. Desperate to escape his harrowing circumstances, the protagonist flees, makes new allies, and embarks on a heartfelt quest to find his long-lost parents.

The ensemble cast features Matvey Tarakanov, Yan Tsapnik, Roman Kurtsyn, Maxim Lagashkin, Vadim Galygin, Eva Smirnova, Valentina Lyapina, Yuri Galtsev, and others. The actress portraying the villainous Belladonna remains a closely guarded secret. The project is being helmed by director Mitriy Semenov-Aleynikov, known for “Not Alone at Home.”
