Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are slated to release a feature film inspired by Hello Kitty on July 21, 2028. The project will be directed by Leo Matsuda, who previously worked on the animated films Zootopia and Wreck‑It Ralph. The screenplay is written by Dana Fox, known for her adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.
The Hello Kitty film was first announced in 2019, yet it took six years before the project progressed to this stage.
Hello Kitty was created by Sanrio in 1974 and has since grown into a global brand — spawning merchandise, themed attractions and cafés.
