Fan-Made RTX Remaster of GTA IV’s Graphics Compared to the Original

NVIDIA’s technology allows enthusiasts to independently update and enhance games.

An unofficial remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV by xoxor4d was recently released, leveraging NVIDIA RTX Remix tools to refresh the game’s visuals.

The creator of the YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits took a look at the project and compared the RTX remaster’s graphics to Rockstar Games’ original release.

The YouTuber highlighted several key points:

  • The mod introduces ray tracing, delivering a marked improvement to global illumination, shadows, reflections, and how materials respond to lighting.
  • System demands are described as extremely high — the demo was run on an RTX 5090.
  • Weather effects and certain details, such as water, material finishes, and some light sources, still require refinement.
  • In some areas, the visuals rival those of contemporary games.
