Extraction shooter Gray Zone Warfare sells 1.5 million copies and receives major PvP update

The game entered early access in April 2024.

MADFINGER Games sold 1.5 million copies of its tactical extraction shooter Gray Zone Warfare. To mark this milestone, the studio released update 0.4.5.0, launched a Steam sale, and started a Twitch Drops campaign.

The developers point to the version 0.4 update from late March as a turning point. It overhauled core mechanics, making it the most significant update since the initial launch. The team is now refining the PvP experience, a primary draw for players exploring the island of Lamang.

Patch 0.4.5.0 expands the radius of Conflict Zones from 300 to 400 meters. This change prevents attackers from immediately revealing their position, giving players more room to set ambushes and use tactical positioning.

The respawn system also underwent changes. Winners of PvP skirmishes now have more time to secure the area and loot fallen opponents before those players return to the fight.

Factions must now wait 30 minutes to recapture a Combat Outpost after losing it. This delay prevents the repetitive back-and-forth control switches that previously plagued these locations.

The update adds requested community features such as task sharing. Squad members can now distribute missions among themselves to complete objectives together.

Beyond gameplay adjustments, the patch adds support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5. It also includes various bug fixes and technical improvements across most game systems.
