The actress also commented on her appearance in the finale of the latest season.

Speaking at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi festival in London, actress Billie Piper, known for her role as Rose Tyler, urged Doctor Who fans to remain patient and not to worry about the show’s uncertain future.

«The show has had a rough patch lately. I think everyone should just take a breath and see what space… and time brings it.»

Piper was also asked about the final scene of the latest season. In it, the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, began regenerating, after which Piper appeared on screen. The actress previously played Ninth and Tenth Doctor companion Rose Tyler, but the showrunners have not yet revealed whom viewers saw on screen:

«I am not the next Doctor. I am Rose Tyler on pause. Sorry for such a cryptic answer, but I am not currently shooting Doctor Who as the Doctor, so I cannot claim otherwise. I am sweating all over. I hate this.»

The uncertainty surrounding Doctor Who stems from massive behind-the-scenes changes. Following the end of the partnership with Disney+, showrunner Russell T Davies and production company Bad Wolf left the project. BBC now needs to select a new team to work on the next season and find an international partner to broadcast and fund the series outside the UK. According to reports from foreign outlets, Doctor Who will return to screens no earlier than 2028.
