Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn) has held our attention since her disquieting introduction in Vince Gilligan’s inventive sci‑fi series Pluribus. As a romantasy novelist drained by self‑hatred, Carol is both infuriating and magnetic: watching her is like observing an inevitable collision — you know it’s coming, but you can’t look away.

Her prickly exterior belies a surprising tenderness that makes her easy to empathize with, whether she’s consoling herself with episodes of The Golden Girls or unravelling at the revelation that humanity has been subsumed by a hive consciousness.

Most compellingly, Carol is on a perverse mission: to prevent a world pacified by collective contentment. That crusade goes sideways in Pluribus episode 4, “Please Carol,” when she escalates the conflict and forces the hivemind into a drastic response.

Carol shares the last of her independence with a dozen other survivors who, like her, are immune to the transmission that merged the rest of humanity. Unlike Carol, most of them are at peace living alongside the hivemind; to them, Carol’s volatility is a danger — her outbursts can destabilize the connection and, in extreme cases, cause the hivemind to fail, with lethal consequences.

Still, there’s a chance she might persuade them.

In an exclusive clip from episode 5, “Got Milk,” provided to Polygon by Apple, Carol records a measured, heartfelt message to the other survivors—urging them to answer the call, preserve human agency, and reclaim the world they knew. Whether anyone responds remains uncertain.

Pluribus episode 5, “Got Milk,” is scheduled to air on Apple TV on November 26, 2025. New episodes will continue to be released on Fridays thereafter.
