DreamWorks officially confirms ‘The Wild Robot’ sequel

DreamWorks Animation has officially moved into production on a follow-up to the hit animated feature “The Wild Robot,” according to reports from TheWrap.

Chris Sanders, the creative force behind the original film, will return to pen the screenplay for the next chapter. While specific plot details are currently under wraps, the directorial duties will be shared by Troy Quane (director of “Nimona”) and Heidi Jo Gilbert, who served as a story artist on the first installment.

Adapted from Peter Brown’s celebrated novel, “The Wild Robot” tells the moving story of a stranded droid who learns to adapt to a remote island by forging deep connections with its animal inhabitants. The film’s star-studded voice cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, and Mark Hamill.

A massive success at the global box office, the film has grossed $334 million to date. Beyond its commercial achievements, the production earned three Academy Award nominations and secured a Golden Globe win.
