Dragon Quest Creator Uses AI to Make Game in 30 Minutes and Is Unfazed by Criticism
Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has released a text adventure game built using Claude AI in just 30 minutes, despite widespread backlash against artificial intelligence in the gaming industry.
The use of AI currently faces heavy criticism, partly driven by a neural network boom that has sharply increased the prices of gaming hardware. However, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has spent several months discussing the creative benefits of AI.
When I created The Portopia Serial Murder Case for PCs a long time ago, I had to come up with the story, draw the images, program it, and handle all the other elements myself. Now, thanks to artificial intelligence, I can simply give it commands and build a complete game on my own, even if I don’t know how to draw or program. It is truly incredible. By the way, the game below took only 30 minutes to make.
The project is a Japanese-language text quest. The author used Claude AI to create it.
Horii is one of the most famous developers in gaming history. Alongside the Dragon Quest series, which transformed the RPG genre, he wrote the scenario for Chrono Trigger, widely considered one of the greatest games of all time.
