Dragon Ball Super Remake Visual Upgrades Shock Fans

When Toei Animation released a trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, most fans could tell the new animation improves on the 2015 series. Without anything to compare it to, however, it was unclear just how much the remake had changed. Some even claimed the new version was barely different at all. Put the original and the remake side-by-side, though, and the differences are like night and day.

On sites like Reddit and YouTube, fans are sharing comparison shots that break down what is different. In some instances, the changes are subtle. The most noticeable change overall is Beerus and his color grading and saturation. The remake is darker and more saturated, which gives Beerus a more somber feel overall. The changes also make smaller highlights pop more than they did in the original, which now looks considerably flatter in comparison.

In other cases, the differences are massive. The remake either fills in details that were missing in the original or restores scenes that were drawn poorly. These changes may not be as noticeable in motion, especially in the middle of a dramatic fight scene. Put side-by-side, however, the differences are astonishing. There are many shots that capture these upgrades, but the most emblematic one might be the recreation of Vegeta punching a wall. The new version actually shows the extent of the damage Vegeta inflicted. The original and its barely visible cracks almost look laughable now.

Beerus premieres on Fuji TV on Oct. 11, but U.S. fans will be able to catch a screening on Oct. 8 at New York Comic-Con. The new series is expected to cover the first two Dragon Ball Super movies and the first 46 episodes of the anime. You can watch EzQuart’s video, which features dozens of comparison shots.

“We can finally see it for what it was MEANT to be,” wrote a viewer of EzQuart’s comparison video.
