The rapper known as the “Swamp Princess” recently sparked a digital firestorm after voicing a controversial opinion: she is absolutely not a cat person. Doechii’s blunt critique of felines on the social media platform Threads has divided her followers, pitting dedicated pet owners against those who share her skepticism of the species.

In a post shared on Monday (March 2), Doechii challenged the societal expectation that everyone must adore cats. “People act like it’s a crime to dislike cats when they genuinely aren’t friendly animals,” she argued. She further suggested that feline domesticity feels forced rather than natural, claiming it is “rare that cats are immediately lovey without years of pain and work put in.”

Not one to mince words, she also poked fun at the physical toll of cat ownership, adding, “Y’all be scratched and beat tf up by your own animals I can’t lmaooo.”

Predictably, her comments drew immediate backlash from the internet’s vast community of cat enthusiasts. While many defended their pets as affectionate companions, the debate Doechii reignited is one that has even reached the scientific community. Experts have long noted that the perceived “unfriendliness” of cats often stems from a human misunderstanding of their evolution. Unlike dogs, who share a long, social co-evolution with humans, cats descend from solitary ancestors, making their social cues vastly different from those of their canine counterparts.

Rather than retreating from the criticism, Doechii doubled down. She responded to the influx of angry comments by sharing a classic clip of Tiffany Pollard laughing at a booing audience during her Flavor of Love era. “Me vs Cat owners,” she captioned the video, signaling that she remains entirely unbothered by the controversy.

This lighthearted online spat comes during a monumental period in Doechii’s career. The hitmaker recently celebrated a major milestone, winning a Grammy for Best Music Video for her chart-topping single “Anxiety.” She also earned three NAACP Image Award nominations, including a nod for the prestigious Entertainer of the Year category.

On the musical front, Doechii continues to be a force on the Billboard charts. Her 2025 collaboration with SZA, “Girl, Get Up,” made an impressive debut at No. 57 on the Hot 100. Over the past year, she has expanded her global footprint through high-profile collaborations with industry heavyweights such as The Weeknd, Alemeda, and BLACKPINK’s JENNIE.
